Karpa, Irena

Irena Karpa is a young prose writer, poet, front woman of alternative band “Actually Alone”, and a TV host. Irena was born in Cherkassy, Ukraine, in 1980. She received a master’s degree in French language at Kiev State University of Foreign Languages. Together with her band, Irena Karpa has released four albums, including an English-language album, in the USA. Irena is a contributor to a number of magazines, writing about her travel experiences and sex issues, and often takes part in erotic photo sessions for glossy magazines. Irena Karpa won the Grand Prix of the «Granoslov» Young Writers International Competition in 1999.

She is the author of three novels, 50 MINUTES OF GRASS, FREUD WOULD CRY and PEARL PORN OR THE SUPERMARKET OF SOLITUDE, triggering heated discussions in the press and riveting acclaim from readers.

FREUD WOULD CRY was a finalist of the BBC Book of the Year in Ukraine. Irena Karpa was announced Writer of the Year-2005. She has recently completed her new novel BITCHES GET EVERYTHING, and is now acting the leading part in a Russian feature film.

When not traveling around the world, Irena lives in Kiev, Ukraine.
